Dermal Fillers

How do dermal fillers work?

Dermal fillers work by imitating a naturally occurring substance within your body – a sugar molecule that exists naturally in almost all living organisms. Its normal function is to bind water so it acts as a lubricant and shock absorber in movable parts of the body, such as joints. It is also important for the transport of nutrients and in regulating water balance in skin. By boosting your skin with this naturally occurring substance, dermal fillers revitalise and add volume to the area instantly. This diminishes the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and giving a natural softer look. The gel we use is very tissue-friendly and closely resembles that which exists in the body.

What are the benefits of dermal filler?

A single treatment can be seen instantly and can last anywhere between 6 to 24 months depending on the thickness of the product, where it is injected and a number of biological factors of an individual patient. We use dermal filler injections to give a natural looking result that does not affect facial expression.

In younger people, dermal fillers are used to enhance features like cheeks, jaw line, chin or lip. As we age, we loose volume on our bones, in the fat pads under the skin and the skin looses elasticity and becomes loose. In this population, dermal fillers can actually be applied directly where it is needed in order to replace the loss of tissue, creating a more youthful appearance.

Filler can also be used in gender fluid people who want to customize their features to the way they feel.
