Platelet rich plasma – facial

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) with micro needling for facials

Micro needling with PRP is a cosmetic procedure that’s primarily used to minimize or reverse the signs of skin aging on the face, neck and body.

During a standard session, the nurse practitioner (NP) will draw blood from the patient and spin it to separate the red blood cells from the plasma. This plasma is rich in T cells and many other healing ingredients. The NP then uses a very small syringe with needle or a special device with a needle to inject the PRP directly into the dermis. This stimulate new collagen production by causing micro injuries to the skin then having the PRP to promote healthy healing. This micro needling modality is also known as collagen induction therapy or percutaneous collagen induction. An enriched Hyaluronic Acid serum can also be used instead of platelet rich plasma.

Platelet-rich plasma, can also be used topically during a mesotherapy session instead of Hyaluronic Acid serum. The PRP massaged into the skin may improve the healing and decrease the duration of redness and swelling seen after micro needling.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF MICRO NEEDLING?

Micro needling with PRP has been shown in some studies to improve outcomes when used to treat everything from hair loss when applied on the scalp age spots, fine wrinkles, scarring, pitting, large pores, rough skin texture, and certain forms of hyperpigmentation. For optimal results, 3 sessions of PRP may be required with maintenance treatments every 6 months.

At Chi Medical Aesthetics, the nurse practitioner uses a U225 micro needling device in order to deliver the PRP directly into the dermis for greater stimulation and healing effect on the skin.

Micro needling can be used to treat scars and stretch marks on other areas of the body such as the decolté or the breasts or abdomen.

The term vampire facial is typically used to refer to micro-needling with PRP used topically on the face.

Most patients are good candidates for this type of the procedure, with few contraindications to treatment as the platelets come directly from the patient.

PRP is approved by Health Canada to be used by trained health practitioners on the scalp or body.
